Man Charged For Importing $40.5 Million Worth Ecstasy From Germany

A 23-year-old Canberra man is behind bars after allegedly importing more than 350 kilograms of ecstasy into Australia, hidden in buckets of chlorine bound for a pool company.

Tamim Jamaal Nozhat was arrested yesterday, after police seized 356 kilograms of ecstasy at an air cargo facility in Sydney. The shipment was worth an estimated $40.5 million.

Mr Nozhat was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug, and appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court this morning dressed in black tracksuit pants and a hoodie.

The court heard Australian Border Force (ABF) officers intercepted a consignment from Germany in May that contained 144 buckets labelled chlorine.
